Open Call for International Animation Day
WIP Festival of CYENS CoE in collaboration with The Cyprus Animation Association, invite animators, artists, filmmakers, and creators to submit animated works for a special screening celebrating International Animation Day.
This year’s edition connects with the thematic framework of WIP 2026 – FLOWS, which explores the multiple ways in which movement, exchange, transformation, systems, and connections shape contemporary life, culture, technology, and society. Through its thematic clusters, FLOWS examines how ideas, people, information, ecologies, and technologies circulate and interact across physical and digital spaces.
We are looking for animation works that engage with or resonate with the FLOWS thematic directions and that explore the relationship between art and technology, whether through the use of technology as a creative medium, by critically reflecting on technological systems and their impact, or by imagining new ways of relating to technological futures.
Selected works will be presented as part of the International Animation Day celebration programme organised by the Cyprus Animation Association and WIP Festival.
Eligibility
- Open to animators, filmmakers, artists, students, and creative practitioners.
- Individual and collaborative works are welcome.
- No premiere status is required.
Accepted Formats
- Animated short films
- Experimental animation
- Hybrid or expanded animation practices
Submission Criteria
- Works should align with one or more of the FLOWS thematic clusters.
- Works should engage with the intersection of art and technology, either:
- through the creative use of technology, or
- through critical, speculative, or reflective approaches to technology and its role in society.
- Maximum duration: 20 minutes
- All films must be submitted in their final completed version (works in progress will not be considered)

Screening Information
- Selected works will be screened during the International Animation Day celebrations.

International Animation Day is an annual global celebration initiated by ASIFA (International Animated Film Association), commemorating the first public screening of animated films in 1892. Each year, events are organised around the world to highlight the art of animation and support its creators. Through this collaboration, the Cyprus Animation Association contributes to this international network by presenting a curated programme of animated works.
